People are direct
Germans tend to say what they mean. If someone isn’t interested, you’ll usually know. The upside: if they are interested, you’ll know that too.

Many Berliners like to get to know someone slowly before calling it a relationship. Several dates before anything is “official” is completely normal.
Language is rarely a barrier
English is widely spoken, especially in central districts. That said, a little effort with German is always appreciated — and makes for a charming date story.

- Take a course at a Volkshochschule.
- Say yes to friends’ birthday parties. Berlin’s social life still runs on them.
